
WHY CONSIDER?
The purpose of graduate education in nursing is to prepare scholars, clinicians, and leaders in the profession. Graduate study provides for acquisition of advanced theoretical knowledge to inform clinical practice and to provide a foundation for doctoral study.
The purpose of the FNP option is to prepare graduates to provide advanced knowledge and skills on which to base clinical practice as an FNP and to contribute to eligibility for national certification as a FNP.
Courses are hybrid or online.
COURSE STRUCTURE
The coursework consists of 40 hours and is offered on either a full-time or part-time basis. All students complete one of two synthesis options: a master's thesis or a master's project.
WHAT DO I NEED FOR ADMISSION?
Students are admitted once a year to the part-time or full-time cohorts. Admission deadline is the second Tuesday in January. Cohorts begin in the summer. Admission requirements include (in addition to licensure, health, and insurance requirements)
- A BSN degree from a NLNAC or CCNE accredited nursing program.
- A GPA of 2.75 or higher in 3000 and 4000 level courses for their BSN major.
- Successful completion of an undergraduate statistics course and for Adult Health and FNP options, completion of a physical assessment course.
- Completion of Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT).
